VR FPS decimated when AGM-65F track video and LTP FLIR or CCD

Recommended Posts

In VR, whenever I have the F Mav IR screen on and the LTP FLIR or CCD on together, my fps goes immediately from 45 to 30 especially if the screens are showing white (normally smoke from target or launch of missile).

Switching one of the displays off immediately brings the fps back to 45.

I could include a track, but I'm not sure if that can display my fps.

Hi

Can you let us know your ingame settings?

I have not seen this happen myself, frames seem to be good for me 45+

You have 4 unique viewports going.

1 regular cockpit view, but since its VR, its two separate viewports. Then add the F Mav and LTP Flir. Whip on the mirrors too and you have 5 viewports.

So turn down your settings. Pixel Density, Draw distance and cockpit display resolution I guess would impact the fps most in this scenario?

Sure, see attached. PD is 1.0 and Steam SS is usually 204%, but I turned it down to the recommended 150% and that made no difference to the issue.

I will add my settings below,

I am running lower settings than you, I also run steam vr at about 120% and DCS pd 1.2.

Settings are personal preference, but I prefer higher frames, and I don't have any problems visually.

Thanks Bignewy,

Made no difference to the issue, I'm afraid. Doesn't surprise me though, as with my system, it's really only MSAA and PD/SS that make any difference to fps, and even then, I'm pretty much always on 45 fps all the time.

Not seen this issue we are discussing before, and there are other modules that use 2 IR displays. Only since advent of LGP on the Hornet have I seen this.

I'm a little confusd as to why this has been moved to a DCS Game Performance forum when it is specific to the Hornet, not to DCS as a whole. As I said in my post above, there is no problem with other modules, e.g. A-10C, affecting fps with 2 IR images on the displays.

Well, what can I say guys, it is most defintely like as I describe for me. See attached with and without TGP on. Goes immediately from 45 to 30 when I turn on TGP, and then immediately back to 45 when I turn it off.

I kind off envisaged the extra load targeting pod would bring to the system. The targeting pod uses some good amount of system resources. Lots of mirroring of objects.

Tgp needs to be tested on other modules like the F-14 and the AV8B to see if fps cut across the board on these modules but it also depend on how the Hornet tgp is implemented.

On the other F-16 sim I fly, same thing there, put on tgp or AGM65 display and you see a drop on your fps.

So, I just tried with the Harrier Maverick and FLIR. No drop of fps there.

That doesnt mean that its the Hornet Flir or Mav. Could simply just be that its being pushed over the limit in the Hornet, and that the Harrier has a little more headroom, which it does. Hornet and Tomcat are known heavy hitters in performance.

VR has this fps thing, where it just snaps from 45 to 30, not 35, not 39, but 30.

Thanks, but I'm not sure what your point is. The fps is flipping from 45 to 30!

And yes, it is being pushed over the limit, and that is the issue. Maybe the modelling of the TGP needs to be looked at to make it more efficient in the Hornet.

As I've said earlier, pretty sure I've never seen this in any other module in DCS.
