Yo-Yo, can you tell us in which period this was? Was the P-51x that "first prop"?

Yes, it was P-51D , at least the visual model :). 2003-2004 as far as I remember.

Id love to see one each of the super powers. Say the ME-109 or FW-190 for the Germans. A zero or Jack for the Japanese, a spitfire for the Brits, and a cool yak for the Sovs. An English Channel map and a Pacific island map and we are in business Baby! :pilotfly::thumbup:

the P51 needs opponents.

Agreed. Let's have a Spitfire.

Il2 has the Silver plate B29. Go and play that if you want atoms. I'm currently feeling like the rest. the P51 needs opponents.

That is an unofficial mod.

Boeing company has the copyrights of those heavy bomber's cockpit. So there are no flyable B-17 and B-29 in the offical version of IL-2 series from the beginning till now.

And those atoms are not quite real. The shockwave travels as fast as light, and no parachute after bomb release.

I'm not convinced that a simulation of an atomic bomb falls remotely in the desired scope of DCS. Certainly nowhere near as important as a real opponent for the P-51, such as an Me 109, or as other great fighters such as the P-38 and P-47.

Ya know what Id also like to see? How about an L-4 Grasshopper? The trusty J-3 cub. To me, that just defines why we get into flying. Sure it aint a fighter or bomber. Its just a puttputt basically. Use it as a FAC or scout, fire smoke, and dodge flak and fighters...hey maybe Im a little crazy but it sounds cool to me. :D

Spitfire as the Mustang's opponent?

Why would we not want a realistic oppositional scenario? :P

Me-109 was the single most produce fighter aircraft in HISTORY, I mean... what better reason is there to model something for a high fidelity flight sim? Only problem would be which one to model? K-4 wasn't really produced even though its probably the best comparison to the late war P-51.

I'd settle for a Fw-190 Dora. Long nose ftw. That beast had some power under the hood.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

There is the key when you say High Fidelity, tracking down all the needed data to make a equal level sim as the P-51 is the the trick :)

I've been hunting for data for 109s, 190s and some Zeros as well, there is a lot online, but its not nearly everything that ED threw at the P-51, so I have been using google translate alot and emailing my brains out :)

Pretty sure when I was playing around with making a FLAK gun I saw an entry in there for something to do with nukes, maybe tactical nukes? Dunno, didnt really play around with it...

Agreed. Let's have a Spitfire.

I would love to see a flyable Spitfire in game but there is no real comparison between the 51 and the Spit, yeah the 51 is faster with longer range but the Spit was a point defence interceptor and had much better dogfighting capabilities. Mustang would stall out trying to stay with a Spit.

Just please note: I love the P51 and this is not a Mustang bash but a dogfight between these two would usually only have one ending!!! And can you imagine the Ai in a Spit?.....it's bad enough now!!

I would prefer to see a German opponent filling the gap that we have for a relevant dogfight scenario! :pilotfly:

A seasoned pony driver would use the Stang speed to his advantage. I know Warbirds online is no DCS but I could easily kill spits and zeroes when they tried to engage me, and the 51 was my plane of choice.

Just depends on the pilot ;) If the P-51 gets suckered into a turning Fight, Spit has the advantage. If the P-51 uses Boom and Zoom, P-51 has the advantage. Same with any aircraft though, the better the pilot, the better chance you have of winning.

Of course a veteran pony driver would never turn with the spit but uses its speed to bang the spit all day long. :)

edit: I should say I'm not knocking the spit as it's one of my all time favorite warbirds as well.

People are enjoying P-51 vs P-51 fights right now, so why cant it be a Spit or even another US fighter. That said, I would love to see some 109s flying over the Cliffs of Dover in DCS World myself :) With the multiplayer aircraft starting to show up, I would love to see a German bomber to intercept as well :)

Well, in the flight sim-games I more or less mastered (IL-2: Forgotten Battles, Aces High), the pilot skill did indeed make a huge difference, of course, but if the pilots were roughly equal, the Spitfire would always win any otherwise-even dogfight against the P-51. Granted, those two sim-games weren't very realistic in their general modelling of things, but I feel that the people who say "it's the pilot not the plane" don't really have a good understanding of how the two relate. It takes two to tango; the aircraft matters as much as the pilot. A good airplane won't do much with a bad pilot, but a good pilot won't do much with a bad airplane. At least, not when he's flying against a good pilot with a good airplane. Of course, I'm not calling the P-51 a bad airplane. It was, however, in those sim-games (especially IL-2). Energy fighting wouldn't allow a good P-51 pilot to knock down a decent Spitifre pilot in a duel. Yank-and-bank would always win the day for the latter, which was disappointing.

Egyptian Spits vs Israeli Mustangs. ;)

And of course, TFC owns and operates not just one, but two Spits. (Though unfortunately not the exact mark that the Egyptians used.)

Depends on how you define an "even" dogfight. If you are talking about what is called a "neutral" setup, then yes. But half the "fight" has already taken place at that point, since just like today one of the most important things was how you set yourself up for the fight, getting an entry that is advantageous to your aircraft.
