The Kodori Gorge Campaign

Recommended Posts

The Kodori Gorge is a ceasefire line between Abkhazia and Georgia. The gorge has been the scene of many military conflicts as well as terrorist activities. Just type kodori Gorge in Google’s searchbar and you'll see what I mean.

The map below shows how Abkhazia is located in relation to Georgia and Russia. The area covered by the blue area the operating area of UN forces (UNOMIG). Their HQ is located in Sukhumi and nearby Dandra-airfield is your homebase.

Here's a quick historie review:

Annexed by Russia in 1864, Abkhazia became an autonomous republic of Soviet Georgia in 1930. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, Abkhazia declared its independence from Tbilisi, igniting a war between Abkhaz secessionists and Georgian troops that lasted nearly 14 months.

In September 1993, Abkhaz forces (with covert assistance from Russia) seized control of the city of Sukhumi, ultimately defeating the Georgian army and winning de facto independence for the territory. As a result of the conflict, more than 200,000 residents, mostly ethnic Georgians, fled Abkhazia, while casualty figures were estimated in the thousands.

An internationally brokered ceasefire was signed in Moscow in 1994, although a final decision on the territory’s status remains unresolved.....

The Kodori Gorge campaign for LockOn vs.1.1 comprises nine missions that are all based on true events. Only flyable US planes were added to the equation to make it possible for you to experience the various true events yourself.

The missions are not of the shoot-em-up kind, they are more a way to force you to respect the ROE, act as a peace-keeper and use your radar and NAV skills.

The missions come with a real storyline (often taken from official press releases) and all additional info you need to complete your mission.

Since the missions aren’t really that difficult it’s highly recommended that you keep labels and moving-map turned off.

I gave the airbases a bit more life by using my trees-mod and using several AI.

Get the campaign here...

I've posted some screenies (in random order) in the screenshots section.

I hope you'll have as much fun playing it as I did and I hope to see some of your screenies soon.

Cheers,

Whilst revamping Shepski's Caucasus tour earlier this year, I did some searching for background info. May be of interest to folks......

Georgia / Abkhazia.

Only a small part of Georgia is within the Lockon map, and much of that is the breakaway region of Abkhazia. The border between Georgia and Abkhazia is monitored by UN peacekeeping troops (UNOMIG - see below), but there continue to be incidents in the Kodori and Inguri valleys . The Russian still maintain their base at Gaudata in Abkhazia, to support their contingent of the UNOMIG peacekeepers. This doesn't sit too well with the Georgians, especially as the Russian troops have in the past acted unilaterally in the Kodori valley (see jamestown.org below)

For a more detailed map of UNOMIG area in this region see:-

UNOMIG have their own website, check it out at,

For an idea of the complexities of the conflict, read this Joe Bob Briggs article,

Thats sounds interesting.

Do I need to install the trees mod to play it?

No, but you'll get some containers and WC-buildings around the airfield.

The mod is nothing more then copy and pasting a few graphic files. Just give it a try, it's worth it!
