Program start hangs on Starforce window

Recommended Posts

Here we go:

- uninstall Lockon/FC

- remove Lockon folder

- apply Starforce uninstall utility

- install Lockon

- install FC

- apply LO_Flaming_Cliffs_Patch_1.12a_EngCD.exe

- game start hangs (clicker-clacker on CD) :icon_evil

- use rollback 'function' to go back to 1.1

- apply LO_Flaming_Cliffs_Patch_1.12_EngCD.exe

- game starts without problem (like it did the last 2 years)

Any idea?

Oh yes, i've downloaded the 1.12a patch twice, from JaBoG and lockon.ru,

but same effect.

Same problem here

I am getting the exact same problem as Floyd. Patch 1.12 works fine. Starforce activates without any problems. However, patch 1.12a hangs at the Starforce activation window when it reaches 30%. I've tried a clean install of 1.12a and tried to patch over 1.12. Both times Starforce hangs at 30%.

Same exact issue here, I was even going to make a movie of it yesterday and post it here because I was so frustrated.

it's like the disc won't read, and it just hangs @ 30%

before it used to take a while to "verify" the stupid disc, but now it just hangs there.

My solution was different. I had to cancel the starforce prompt that pops up when you click on your desktop icon to launch lockon.

What you have to do is eject the disc, then re-insert... When the lockon screen pops up (autorun menu, not starforce) the one that says "play, uninstall, with the pic of a jet, etc.." click PLAY from there.

It then proceeded to go to the starforce auth crap and finally went through. Try it, it's the only way to play the game. Yes SF sucks.

I'll post a mini movie if any devs what to see exactly whats happening.

I'm working with SF on it but they words still out... I will return to this post with an answer hopefully.

Until then... I can play 1.12a when the disk is OUT of the drive... what happemns in a week when starforce wants to re-check the disk?

The game doesn't start at all and if i remove the disc a window pops

up with an error message about a "callback problem". The SF program

(protect.exe i'll guess) hangs, because if i want to end it Windows tells

me that the program is not responding.

Leave lockon alone (i have the cd version)

uninstall starfart using their removal program

reboot.

goto device manager.

click view, show hidden devices.

There is one more starfart driver there. Right click and remove it.

reboot

start up lockon...

this just happened to me also...

this was the fix for me.

Thanks,

Brett

Tried that, no joy: Starforce hangs at 30% on the second start.

When i close the program Windows tells "program does not reply"

and opening the disc tray gives:

File or function: unsigned int __thiscall PcodeInterface::Initialize (void)

Line 214

Message: Unhandled exception in feedback

%$#@%$#@%$#@ <<< thats how i feel right now, star force POS>>>>

My game started once with the method in my previous post, but as of today it has not launched and I tried everything in this thread as well as anything that i could think off, the stupid thing just get stuck and wont budge and I cannot play the ****ing game I payed for...

this really makes me upset. I could PIRATE the damn game and play with less problems. thats total and utter BS...

I know is not directly ED's fault, but is so damn frustrating...

I just wanna play my game

PS: after 30 minutes of leaving the ORIGINAL disc, it returned this error (and ofcourse didnt launch the game)

Well, patch 1.12a came with new 'protect.exe' and 'protect.dll', both

dated 17. Feb 2006. If ED thought it was needed to use other, newer

or different Starforce thingies - then it's up to them to fix this.

Please remember, 1.12 is running ok for all who have this problem now.

ED took care of the RWR bug - wth has that to do with Starforce???

I know members of ED are reading this forum and i'll wait for 169th_Fudd

who has a call open with SF before I start to mail ED/SF. Albeit the patch

is 6 days old still no "we're working on it" message from the developers.

Just tested to see if this thing could happen to me to. I get the same problem if the cd is in the drive. :icon_evil . So this means I can play FC for a few more days and then I have to reinstall. Cool  BS just went of the wish list for now.

I ve got a downloaded version but the only time i had an error message like neodark s one it was because i had windows which wasn t activated . After having activated it it worked without problems .

I don t think the DVD rom is the problem , because i ve just installed a third DVD rom drive and it works without problems i ve even put a PCI addon card ..

His error message occured after 30 minutes, so there is obviously something

wrong with the SF stuff (i gave up after 2 minutes). IIRC all players reporting

here can run 1.12 just fine and our CD/DVD-roms did'nt break the same time.

To put it simple: SF after the 1.12a patch is too stupid to read the disk.
